Group Trips
Group Trip 2024 Niederbronn les Bains
In Summer 2024, we visited the Niederbronn les Bains near Strasbourg once again, together with the group of Hans Kroha in Bonn. Located between Zürich and Bonn, it was the perfect place for scientific exchange.
As a meeting between a theoretical and a (mostly) experimental research group, there were many opportunities to share experiences, discuss new projects, and foster new collaborations.
The event was rounded out with social activities: A BBQ night, a hike through the nearby mountains in the rain, and a visit to the city of Strasbourg. An excellent and exciting week; thank you to the group of Hans Kroha for joining us!
Group Trip 2023 Göttingen
In Summer 2023, we visited the city of Göttingen with its vast scientific history. Together with the group of Claus Ropers, we enjoyed exciting scientific exchange and a lovely time together. Thank you very much to Claus Ropers and his group for hosting us!
We had the pleasure of getting a scientific historic tour of Göttingen, organized by Gerrit Hostmann. We had the pleasure of visiting the old places of scientific legends of the likes of Werner Heisenberg, Max Planck, Max Born, David Hilbert, and Emmy Noether.
The experience was rounded out by a game of laser-tag, where we showed our marksman skills. It has been an amazing experience!
Group Trip 2021 Niederbronn les Bains
In autmn 2021, a group trip brought us to a beautiful town in Alsace region in France, Niederbronn-les-Bains. We stayed in the marvelous villa, Le Riesack. This place is surrounded by the forest and vast fields. Fascinated by the views, we went hiking through the forest to the local mountains.
The genuine surprise was the scientific part of our trip! It was organized in a form of a seminar with former group members. They gave talks about their current research and work in industry. We had active scientific discussions, got a chance to see examples of our alumni’s careers, and got the secret tips from professor Fiebig on how to become successful in science.
In the evenings, we teamed up and played board games. We had a great time and this trip certainly brought us closer together.
Group Trip 2019 Munich
This year’s group trip brought us to Munich. After a cozy 4 hours bus ride and some refreshments, we made our way to the ‘Deutsches Museum’ to marvel at many scientific exhibits including the first ruby laser invented in 1960. In the evening, we found the Christmas spirit walking through the Christmas market with a steaming cup of mulled wine and enjoyed the luscious Bavarian cuisine in the ‘Ratshauskeller’. During a guided city tour the next day, we got to know the many historic sights of Munich from a new perspective.
Group Trip 2018 Berlin
Berlin was our destination for the group trip this year. We had the chance to visit the impressive laboratories and facilities of the Max-Born-Institute (for non-linear optics) and the Light Source BESSY II and the pleasure to discuss with our colleges. Berlin is not only home for many important research institutions but also offers an amazing cultural richness. It sometimes needs a second look to discover the hidden things. This we learned during an alternative Berlin city tour which introduced us to the various aspects of street art that can be found all over the city if you know where to look for. Balancing body and mind, we had great fun exploring the waterways of the Spreewald, paddling our kayaks around – and sometimes into – the obstacles nature made us face.
Group Trip 2017 Napoli
Our group trip 2017 led us to the southern Italian city of Naples. We had a great time hosted by our colleagues of Prof. Lorenzo Marrucci’s group of the Università di Napoli Federico II. Fascinating discussions about quantum and nonlinear optics, q-plates and condensed matter physics on the first day were follow by a trip to the ancient Roman city of Pompeii and a walk to the edge of the crater of the Vesuvius. During dinner, some of us even had the chance to learn how to disassemble, open and eat large Mediterranean crabs.
Group trip 2016
This year, our group trip took us to Strasbourg, France, where we had the opportunity to visit the IPCMS, Institute Physical And Chemistry De Strasbourg. Many thanks again to our French hosts! Beside we explored the lovely old town, food and much more...
